What's going on in Japan today?

Looks like Grand Theft Auto has been banned in Kanagawa prefecture. From Big Daikon, it looks like only one JET has been placed there, so I guess all the other JETs should have no worries. God, could you imagine life without Grand Theft Auto?

Still waiting...

Not much has changed since April 4th. I'm still waiting and hoping that I get upgraded. Emily has gotten a lot of good news. She has been placed in Toyoma and finds out her exact placement sometime around June 8th.

It is really starting to look like I might have to get to Japan via a route other than JET. I hate that. I really wish they had just taken Emily and I together. It would have made everything a hell of a lot easier. Oh, well. I guess you can't have everything your way.

People from other consulates are being upgraded

I quick scan of the threads on Big Daikon reports that several consulates around the US have upgraded people from the alternate list. I started a thread asking anybody if they were upgraded in Miami and the answer appears to be NO. That could be a good thing or a bad thing.

It could mean that they haven't upgraded anyone yet or it could mean that nobody in Miami is giving up their spot. With such a small number of applicants from Miami, that could be very bad for me. I hope it is the former rather than the latter.

The next big round of upgrades should be coming up in the next couple of weeks. That is when they let everyone know where thier placements are. Supposedly a bunch of people usually drop out after that. Here's to hoping, right?

This whole JET thing is really putting a strain on my relationship with Emily. Of course I want to stay with her, but I am not comfortable just up and moving to Japan without any source of income. If I still have not heard from JET after she gets her placement, I will start researching jobs with other employers in the city where she will be living. It shouldn't be too difficult to find work, it just sucks that many of the other programs pay less and make you pay for your own plane ticket to Japan.

If I end up going over with another program there is also the whole situation of us not leaving for Japan at the same time...but that is a whole other story.

Still waiting...

I thought that it would be worth nothing that every time I check my email I hope to find a letter from the consulate. Haven't gotten anything yet...I guess I'll keep waiting.
