Tree Lighting Shenanigans

Last night we had the tree lighting for the PDM/Beautify CNMI! Recyclable Christmas Tree ornament contest. 15 private and public elementary schools took old trash and other recyclable materials and turned them into beautiful Christmas ornaments. The decorated trees turned out a lot nicer than I ever expected them to. Seriously. These kids did some amazing things with old cans and plastic. My favorite ornament was probably the candy cane sporks.

As one of the five judges I got to help decide who had the best tree. We are giving out over $1000 in cash and prizes...but we're not announcing who gets them until December 21. You'll just have to wait.

It was really cool to see the Lieutenant Governor (between Cinta and Morgan, second from the right) and his family walking around the Paseo de Marianas. I'd like to see more of that. Hell, it was nice seeing families walking around in Garapan again. I'd like to see more of that, too.

After the tree lighting ceremony we went up to Ocean's for a few drinks and food, followed by another karaoke marathon at Bar Chambre at Fiesta Resort, followed by pizza and beer at Godfather's.

This picture pretty much captures the mood for the rest of last night. We were all pretty happy from the success of our event on the Paseo. It was a good time. We even ran into EJ and Wijay at karaoke...but they left way before we did. If you heard us "singing," you'd understand why.

That last picture would be Morgan and EJ doing Morgan's "signature look." My Blue Steel is really, really, really ridiculously more beautiful, but whatever.

I should just challenge her to a walk off.

Between songs I took time out to call my sister Catie in Florida. She turned 7 yesterday. Happy birthday, Cate! I can't believe it has been over a year since I saw you! I won't recognize you the next time I see you!

We've got a cleanup of Garapan tomorrow morning. I was going to take the pictures then.
