Saipan Blogger to Ambrose Bennett: Make More Babies

In yesterday's Saipan Tribune, Ambrose Bennett, the man who compares himself to Abraham Lincoln, suggested that what the Marianas ought to do to promote tourism is to showcase our beauty queens and athletes. He calls it common sense. It is so common, in fact, that he refers to "common sense" or "common knowledge" eleven times in this latest letter.

Eleven times.

One letter.

WTF?

He writes:
Our athletes and beauty queens can do MORE to promote the CNMI than any junket or tourist convention put together and that's more than common sense - IT'S A TRIED AND PROVEN FACT!
So basically, his daughter, the beauty queen, and his other daughter, the runner, should get more free vacations on the government dime...in the name of tourism. Does anyone else read it that way? Come on, it's common sense!

All we need to save the Marianas economy is for Ambrose Bennett to have more babies and for those kids to go off on government sponsored vacations at the earliest possible moment. The future of our Commonwealth depends on it!

Edit:

In a letter to the editor today, Ambrose refers to common sense 10 times. Come on, Bennett, you can do better than that!

I think we should be just as concerned that the Tribune is publishing letters back to back from him. I mean, with things the way they are currently, we are certainly NOT lacking for news. Shame on you, Tribune... shame shame shame.

I think we should expand the peramaters of beauty contestant and athlete requirements to include older, distinguished, friendly and talented folk named Bruce Bateman. (Okay, just older). Common sense tells us the he too would like to travel far and wide on the public dime.

As to breeding, I'm all for it.

I also noticed that yesterday's letter was probably written without being edited by his ghostwriter as it was 'more smarter' than his other diatribes.

Mercifully I have not read today's submission.

Finally, I would say he is on a par with Lincoln, I've been saying so for years.

I recently came across this "Saipan Blog" page and found it interesting. I think it's a really good idea that open discussions can be made and that we all can get different views and opinions about ALL THINGS affecting the CNMI, its people, and everything else.

I'm not from Saipan and I don't know who's Ambrose Bennett, but I find his articles interesting. His idea about utilizing beauty queens and athletes (well maybe not beauty queens) to promote the CNMI isn't such a bad idea.

Sports tourism is a multi-billion dollar business. Our geographical location gives us a competitive advantage when it comes to attracting visitors from Asia and other neighboring regions to partake and/or witness major sporting events that could possibly take place in the CNMI. The thing is, we don't have the infrastructure to host such events. The CNMI needs to attract investors to take on such projects and build a world-class and state-of-the-art sporting complex that can accommodate multiple sports.

We also all need to work on diversifying the sports that's offered in the CNMI. In the CNMI, soccer, rugby, lacrosse, tennis, and such, are not popular. We should think about introducing these sports to our youths and sit back to watch interests grow. Soccer, for example, is the biggest sport in the world and extremely popular in Asia. If the CNMI can offer a state-of-the-art sporting complex, we can host major sporting events. We can also sell Saipan and the rest of the CNMI as a place where professional sporting teams from asia and elsewhere can conduct spring training. They'll love our weather!

Can you envision it now?

Anyway, I must say that if all this were to happen, the government should NOT be involved much. We've all seen how government-owned buildings are taken care of. After a few years, the government will let it deteriorate. Right? Look at our parks, our basketball courts, government buildings...! It's a fact that the government can't maintain its facilities.

That's all I have to say for now...

I don't disagree with you. I'm really just poking fun at his overuse of "common sense."

...and the sports thing is a good idea, but when done wrong, you end up with "The Saipan Incident." Look that one up.

And oh yeah, in most of the United States, soccer, rugby, lacrosse, tennis, and such, are not popular. Those are sports that white people play...usually white people from New England.

...but soccer is gaining in popularity here.
