Shortly after 1:30pm yesterday, rented generators from the Singapore-based Aggreko were shut off to give way to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.'s own power generation. The Marianas Variety added:
“TODAY, we can safely announce that the Saipan power production crisis is over,” Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said yesterday after the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. disconnected Aggreko’s generators.By 7:00 PM, just over 5 hours later, 6 of the 18 Aggreko generators were back on. A seventh was turned on a few hours later.
“CUC was broken. We needed temporary generators. But now we have fixed CUC and we are going to do without these temporary generators from now on. This is progress,” the governor said.
