Going to the dogs

There is a letter to the editor about my candidacy in today's Saipan Tribune. Dr. Dan Teich is a veterinarian and we met earlier this year when I was in Washington, DC to attend Barack Obama's inauguration. As you may have guessed, the letter deals with the dog issue.
Islandwide spay and neuter program

My name is Dan Teich and I am a veterinarian living and working in the Washington, D.C. area. I was formerly the Medical Director of the National Capital Area Spay and Neuter Center.

During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., I was contacted by Angelo Villagomez about the possibility of working with him if he is elected mayor of Saipan to conduct an islandwide spay and neuter program for the stray dogs living on your island.

In our correspondence he described the difficulties he and other PAWS members have had in trying to hold such a clinic over the years and how he thinks it will be easier to accomplish as a government official, as your mayor.

I do not live on Saipan, nor do I vote there and I would never intrude on your local elections. However, if Angelo is elected as your next mayor, I have committed to come out to Saipan and hold a spay and neuter clinic before his first term of office is over.

Dr. Dan Teich, DVM
Washington, D.C.
