Pacific Wide Tsunami Warning after Chilean Earthquake

There are always rumors and misinformation on Saipan when things like tsunamis and typhoons are bearing down on us. The best place to look for information on potential tsunamis is the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

There is a tsunami warning in effect for most of the Pacific basin after an 8.8 earthquake struck the coast of Chile. Saipan and the rest of the Northern Mariana Islands is included in the warning. The latest update came at 11:47 GMT, which is 6:47 AM here on the East Coast and 9:47 PM on Saipan. The warning is about an hour old a new one should be coming up soon.
