62 years ago...

..an American GI pulled the pin out of this grenade and threw it with the intention of killing another human being. It may or may not have hit its target, but there it sits, slowly eroding away.

This grenade was already used. It will not explode. People all over Saipan have them displayed in there houses.

that's an awesome picture! and what exactly do you mean that "it's already been used?" shouldn't it be in bits'n'pieces if it's already been used?

Yes, an American GI had the intent of taking someone else's life when he threw the grenade. And maybe of preserving his own, and his unit's. And maybe if many of them hadn't fought and bled into this little island, your blog woud be posted in kanji and kana!
