I have been the Most Popular Blog Ever for five days now. I know you're jealous. That's just how I roll.
I was on the radio again this week.
Mike Tripp and I appeared on Harry Blalock's Island Issues radio program. We were invited to talk about creating community driven Ecotourism opportunities in the Marianas. The specific programs we are particularly interested in are improving the Marianas image and functionality as a diving destination, working with Beautify CNMI to create and market a system of parks & trails in the Marianas, and creating a coop of locally owned bed & breakfasts and home stays, whether for learning English, immersing the tourist in the local culture and way of life, or for giving the tourist a more affordable means of visiting the Marianas.
We had a meeting of this yet unnamed group on Wednesday during happy hour at Oleai Bar & Grille. About 50 people showed up. It was a little chaotic at first, but after only 90 minutes we decided to get to work on an online diving portal for the Marianas.
We're meeting again this Wednesday, same time, same place. Anyone is welcome to attend, so I hope to see you there. If you can't make it this Wednesday, stay tuned for more.
We, well, really just I, had a nice little event with some new and some old, er, I mean, former, Marianas High School students yesterday. The MHS class of 1983 adopted a Flame Tree with the Beautify CNMI Adopt-a-Flame Tree program and yesterday we planted it on their former stomping grounds.
I brought along a second tree and dedicated it to the MHS class of 2011, who had their first day of High School last Friday.
When they graduate in about four years, their tree should be about 20 feet tall...and I hope all of them graduate in four years.
You can kind of make out the tree hiding behind the M and H on the banner. What can I say? The class of '83 wanted to make sure nobody mistook them for the class of '84.
Last night we had an impromptu Blogger Meetup at Porky's Bar. I went expecting to see Harry, Jeff, and Melissa sipping on Mojitos, but was shocked to see the bar full of bloggers and blogger friends.
Bree was there with her husband, daughter, daughter's friend, and all of the new teachers at Hopwood. Harry and Melissa were there, of course, Hozumi was there with Bryan, and Boni was there with her husband. Jeff also convinced his wife to come, along with EJ, and Brad. (Notice how non-bloggers don't have names?)
Of course, no night at Porky's would be complete without running into the Face of Drunken Evil, the Worst Person in the World, Bruce Bateman:
Oh yeah, I quit drinking last week. I didn't have a drop of alcohol for about 6 weeks starting last February and I lost weight and felt great. I'm not going to drink from now until my birthday in October...just because.
Speaking of quiting bad habits, Porky's is going to go smokeless every Wednesday. Patrons will still be able to smoke, they'll just have to step outside.
I think this is a great idea.
Our next COED soccer game is Wednesday afternoon. Come join Taya Talent at Porky's after our game!
Based on a suggestion from one of the participants of the Ecotourism meetup at Oleai on Wednesday, I've added サイパン, ロタ, テニアン, and 北マリアナ to my list of meta data keywords. We'll see if that improves my ranking in Japanese search engine results.
The number one search result for サイパン is currently the MVA Japanese site. Go MVA!
