I made friends with a family of squid during a snorkel back in February. Up until this year the only place I ever saw schools of swimming calamari was Obyan Beach on Saipan. I met these guys in Fiji back in February and I also saw some outside the atoll near Rita, Majuro, Marshall Islands two weeks ago.
Most squid must know that I want to fry them up and serve them with a spicy marinara sauce, but this family of tentacled swimmers thought I was their friend. I have an idea: if the shark clans in Fiji are protected by sharks, maybe that means squid are a part of my totem!
